NGĀTI PAOA IWI TRUST NOTICE OF ELECTION OF TRUSTEES, CALLING FOR NOMINATIONS & NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Notice is hereby given that an election will be held on Friday 10 November 2023 for seven (7) Trustees for the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust. The election will be held under the First Past the Post electoral system, by postal and online voting.
NOMINATIONS Nominations for the seven positions open on Friday 25 August 2023 and close at 5pm on Friday 15 September 2023. Each candidate must, as at the closing date for nominations (5pm, Friday 15 September 2023) be recorded in the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust Register as an Adult Registered Member of Ngāti Paoa, and be nominated by not less than three (3) Adult Registered Members.

Under the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust Deed of Trust, an Adult Registered Member of Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust shall not be eligible for nomination as a candidate for election as a Trustee if he or she: (a) is or has ever been convicted of an offence involving dishonesty as defined in section 2(1) of the Crimes Act 1961, or an offence under section 373(4) of the Companies Act 1993 (unless that person is an eligible individual for the purposes of the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004); (b) is bankrupt or has made any composition arrangement with his or her creditors; (c) has been convicted of an indictable offence (unless that person is an eligible individual for the purposes of the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004); or (d) is subject to a compulsory treatment order under the Mental Health (Compulsory Treatment and Assessment) Act 1992 or is subject to a care and protection order under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988; (e) has within the last three (3) years been removed from the office of Trustee in accordance with clause 21.3 of the Deed of Trust.
Iwi-endorsed competencies sought in trustees are outlined in the nomination paper. Nominations must be in writing and received by the Chief Returning Officer no later than 5pm, Friday 15 September 2023. Retiring Trustees are eligible for re-election.
MEET THE CANDIDATE EVENING Candidates will be invited to attend and speak at a Meet the Candidate Evening. A time and venue (or online facility) will be advised at a later date. Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust invites registered members and their whānau to attend.
INVITATION TO REGISTER Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust invites qualified persons aged 18 years or over, who have not already registered, to apply for inclusion on the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust Register. NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Members are advised that an Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 26 November 2023 at the Auckland Old Boys R.F.C club rooms, 22-50 Dunkirk Road, Panmure.

Ngāti Paoa Iwi endorsed trustee competencies The following trustee competencies were endorsed by the Ngāti Paoa Iwi in 2015, and while they are not mandatory, skills in these competencies are desirable: • Has Te Reo and Tikanga • Can understand their obligations and role as a trustee • Can uphold core values of Ngāti Paoa at all times • Has relevant experience and qualifications • Can exercise decisive leadership • Has excellent communication skills • Is responsible and accountable
