NGĀTI PAOA IWI TRUST NOTICE OF ELECTION OF TRUSTEES, CALLING FOR NOMINATIONS & NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Notice is hereby given that an election will be held on Friday 18 September 2020 for seven (7) Trustees for the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust. The election will be held under the First Past the Post electoral system, by postal and online voting.

NOMINATIONS

Nominations for the seven positions open on Tuesday 30 June 2020 and close at 5pm on Tuesday 21 July 2020.

Each candidate must, as at the closing date for nominations (5pm, Tuesday 21 July 2020) be recorded in the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust Register as an Adult Registered Member of Ngāti Paoa, and be nominated by not less than three (3) Adult Registered Members.

Nominations must be in writing, and made on an official nomination paper available from Tuesday 30 June 2020:

  • by downloading the form
  • by phoning the Returning Office on (09) 973 5212 or 0800 922 822
  • by emailing info@electionservices.co.nz

Under the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust Deed of Trust, an Adult Registered Member of Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust shall not be eligible for nomination as a candidate for election as a Trustee if he or she:

(a) is or has ever been convicted of an offence involving dishonesty as defined in section 2(1) of the Crimes Act 1961, or an offence under section 373(4) of the Companies Act 1993 (unless that person is an eligible individual for the purposes of the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004);

(b) is bankrupt or has made any composition arrangement with his or her creditors;

(c) has been convicted of an indictable offence (unless that person is an eligible individual for the purposes of the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004); or

(d) is subject to a compulsory treatment order under the Mental Health (Compulsory Treatment and Assessment) Act 1992 or is subject to a care and protection order under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988;

(e) has within the last three (3) years been removed from the office of Trustee in accordance with clause 21.3 of the Deed of Trust.

All candidates must comply with the Iwi-Endorsed Trustee Competencies, which are outlined on the nomination paper, or you can download the form below.

Nominations must be in writing and received by the Chief Returning Officer no later than 5pm, Tuesday 21 July 2020.

Retiring Trustees are eligible for re-election.

MEET THE CANDIDATE EVENING

Candidates will be required to attend and speak at a Meet the Candidate Evening. This will be held on Thursday 13 August 2020. A time and venue will be advised at a later date. Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust invites registered members and their whānau to attend.

Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust invites qualified persons aged 18 years or over, who have not already registered, to apply for inclusion on the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust Register. Download the form below or email the Trust on admin@ngatipaoaiwi.co.nz.

NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Members are advised that an Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 30 September 2020 at the Manukau Civic Centre, 33 Manukau Station Road, Manukau. The results of the election will be announced at the Annual General Meeting.
