The Ngati Paoa Iwi Trust is about to commence a three part marae based wānanga to design and develop three new enterprises. We are looking for iwi members wishing to participate in this workshop programme, to learn from the experience and take an active role in turning ideas into reality.

The workshops take place in February and March 2017.

The projects are:

Whānau homestays
Whanau homestays provides opportunities for whānau to host tourist visitors in their homes and recommend tourists onto other whānau homes, highlighting the point of difference and being able to create an authentic mana whenua experience.

Waka racing festival
Ngati Paoa are a waka people and this project builds on that strong association with the moana. This would initially have a combination of social, cultural and productive benefits with various aspects to it.

Historical Geospatial mapping
The historical geospatial mapping project provides for a real value added offering to iwi members by enabling access to our Matauranga Māori as it relates to location within the rohe.

Additional to the above projects, we will also be having a half day hui with potential stakeholders on Jan 26th in Manukau for the following projects; Paoa documentary, Maramataka, Te Reo, Harakeke nursary and riparian planting, Cruise liner waka escorts, Waka and celestial navigation. A reminder with more detail on the half day hui to follow later this week.

If you are interested in knowing more, or being a part of the programme, please contact Dean Ogilvie, Ngāti Paoa operations Office email ops@ngatipaoaiwi.co.nz mobile 027 577 7517
