Matariki 2016
Over the past 15 years, Auckland Council has supported the events that make up the Matariki Festival in Tāmaki and this year they are taking it a step further.
Starting this year, each one of the 19 manawhenua entities in Tāmaki will take turns as hosts for the celebrations, and Ngāti Paoa has the honour of being the first host iwi for this new concept in 2016.
As part of being host iwi, there will be specific events that will highlight Ngāti Paoa whakapapa and stories, as well as artists around the region.
To kick off the festival, we are proud to announce that Janine (Ngāti Paoa) and Charles Williams will reveal Hauhake, a unique art installation in Downtown Auckland on Thursday 9th June.
